Demetrius Toney is a Los Angeles–based painter whose work centers on intimate portraiture drawn from personal relationships and shared moments of vulnerability, connection, and emotion. His paintings focus on expression and emotional presence, capturing feelings of closeness, love, sadness, and community.
Toney often places his figures within subtly surreal backgrounds, allowing the subject to remain the emotional anchor while inviting viewers into a deeper sense of connection. Born in San Diego in 2001, he has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 2021 and has been studying under Raffi Kalenderian since early 2024.
