Celia Lees approaches abstraction as a deeply personal and gestural process. She began painting in search of self expression and a more profound connection with both life and herself. Primarily working on a large scale, she uses the motions of her body to direct her compositions and apply her mark-making, allowing intuition to guide her practice. Her paintings do not seek to represent tangible forms but rather she finds her art is frequently influenced by internal feelings or emotional connections she holds with other human beings. She is in constant pursuit of a visual language for the unseen and unsaid.
