JULIA GODOY
LOS ANGELES
Júlia Godoy is a Brazilian artist based in Los Angeles whose painting practice is deeply rooted in the use of natural pigments gathered from the landscapes she moves through. From coastal cliffs to mountain trails, she collects stones, plants, bones, and insects—transforming these materials into vivid, handmade pigments that carry both color and memory. Each work becomes a record of place and time, grounding her process in a dialogue between the body and the Earth.
Her paintings are quiet meditations on belonging, transformation, and ancestral connection. Working in layers, she burnishes pigment into soft, porous surfaces, allowing the unpredictability of each material to shape the final composition. Guided by intuition and ritual, her work explores themes of impermanence, intimacy, and the slow unfolding of natural cycles. Through her process, she honors the ephemeral beauty of the land and the stories embedded within it.
